Tyumen, Russia – January 21, 2020: TikTok and Facebook application on screen Apple iPhone XR
You may have noticed a blue check mark or tick next to certain users’ names on TikTok and be wondering what it means.
Well, similar to on other social media sites such as Twitter and Instagram, the blue tick signifies that an account has been verified.

Let’s explore exactly what that blue check mark means…
If an account is verified, it means that TikTok has confirmed that the account actually belongs to the person it is representing or claiming to be.
This is a particularly useful function for celebrities, brands and influencers as it stops people from impersonating them and spreading misinformation.
Once an account has received the blue check mark it is more likely to be trusted by users and also counts as sort of status symbol as it indictates an account is popular.
Allegedly, verified TikTok accounts also benefit from increased exposure.
We don’t know the exact number of followers you need, but according to Dexerto, the verification process is based more on high-quality and popular videos.
Unlike on Twitter, you can’t apply for a blue tick on TikTok. The app has its own secret verification process in which staff seek out users to give blue check marks to.
So it doesn’t seem like the number of followers a TikTok account necessarily means that much. There are accounts with hundreds of thousands of followers which are not verified- like @cathererra who has 1 million followers.
While there is no surefire way to get that coveted blue check mark, here are some tips to help you along the way.
