The NCAA transfer portal can either be a friend or a foe for college football programs.
Unfortunately, the portal has been a definite enemy of the Colorado Buffaloes over the past year-plus. Stars such as Brenden Rice, Jarek Broussard, Mekhi Blackmon, Christian Gonzalez and Mark Perry left Boulder last offseason, and a number of key starters have done the same following CU’s one-win 2022 campaign. The transfer portal, which has two open windows this offseason (Dec. 5 to Jan. 18 and from May 1-15), can still be a useful tool for a Buffs program looking to rebuild, though.
It’s also worth mentioning that once a player enters the portal, he can still return to his original program.
Here’s a helpful tracker of Colorado’s additions and subtractions via the transfer portal this offseason:
